Erich and Libby: A Lifesaving Connection

For 23 years, Erich battled chronic PTSD, major depression, and general anxiety disorder stemming from his time as an Air Force firefighter. He was stuck in bed, isolating from loved ones, and suffering from bouts of suicidal ideation. Erich describes The Hero Company as an amazing group of gifted, experienced, and talented people dedicated to finding furry friends for veterans and their families.

It took two attempts to find his beloved dog, Libby, but the moment they met, Erich knew she was the one. Libby is incredibly gentle, and whenever Erich pets or interacts with her, he can feel his anxiety and depression lift. Sleeping with Libby in his bed has also drastically improved his sleep quality.

Libby is not only on track to become Erich's personal service dog, but he also plans to train her as a therapy dog so they can visit retirement homes, hospitals, and schools together. Erich credits The Hero Company with giving him great hope for the future and a companion to help him move forward.
