John and Moose: A Granddaughter's Gift of Healing
For John

An Unexpected Application: When John's ten-year-old granddaughter, Carly, campaigned for him to apply to The Hero Company for a companion dog, John just went along with it. Knowing about his PTSD, dark moods, and nightmares, Carly took it upon herself to fill out and send in the application. Soon after, the regional director of The Hero Company interviewed John and his wife, conducted a home visit, and delivered Moose to their family.
A Nightmare Interrupted: Moose impacted John's life almost immediately. Only two weeks into living together, John had a severe Vietnam nightmare. Moose jumped right up to his head and licked his face to wake him up, leaving John incredibly grateful.
Healing and Socializing: Thanks to Moose, John's focus is no longer trapped by his past memories. Going to the park gives John daily exercise and something to look forward to, while helping him socialize with other people and dogs. Playing games with Moose lifts his spirits, reduces his stress, and concludes with peaceful naps together on the recliner. Moose has become a loyal, loving member of the whole family.
The Ultimate Protector: Recently, while John was recovering at home from surgery, Moose refused to leave his side. During a physical therapy session, Moose protectively laid across John's hand and arm as the therapist checked his vitals. He didn't growl; he was simply watching out for his owner. John's family is incredibly happy that Moose has found his forever home, a match made possible by the dedicated trainers, foster parents, and partners at The Hero Company.
